How to transfer your Sonos system to a new account

If your Sonos system has been setup by someone else, you’ll need to transfer it to your own Sonos account in order to login, and make changes to your system. It’s important to do this so you can keep your Sonos updated.

The first step is to create a Sonos account. Go to to do this. When you create the account, you’ll receive an e-mail which prompts you to confirm the account by choosing a password.

Once you’ve created your account and set the password, you can transfer the Sonos system ownership to your account – follow these instructions to do this:

If you don’t know the credentials for the existing account, you’ll need to sign out before you can transfer ownership of the system to a new account. Go to  Settings > Account and tap Sign Out, then follow the steps below.

  1. Open the Sonos app for iOS or Android.
  2. From the  Settings tab, tap System, then scroll to the bottom of the window.
  3. Tap Transfer System Ownership and follow the prompts.
